Jim Jones Headlining 'Push For Peace' Concert
Rapper Jim Jones will join Hot 97 community activist/radio personality Lisa Evers for the third “Push for Peace” concert tomorrow (August 25). The third “Push for Peace” concert will take place in Harlem, for the first time.
The goal of the concert is to empower young people, in addition to developing conflict resolution skills as an alternative to violence.
“We’ve seen a rash of gun violence this summer. Many of the victims and the shooters are teens and young adults,” Lisa Evers said. “We are using the unique power of Hot 97 to reach out and talk with our young people, and to show them that there are many in the community ready and willing to help them turn their lives in a productive direction. Our Push 4 Peace show and festival is a fun way to give them a voice and let them know they’re not in this alone.”
The free event will feature workshops, a town hall meeting, an open mic competition and other community-oriented events.
In addition to Lisa Evers and Jim Jones, a variety of rappers, activists and supporters will attend the event, which is being sponsored by HOT 97 and New York City Correction Officers Benevolent Association President Norman Seabrook.
“Gun violence is out of control in this city and in this country,” added Norman Seabrook, President of the Correction Officers’ Benevolent Association. “I have personally witnessed the pain of my members whose children have been shot dead in our streets and that’s why I’m proud to announce that COBA is once again teaming up with Hot 97 and Lisa Evers to bring the Push for Peace event to Harlem.”
The “Push for Peace” show takes place on Saturday, August 25th from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Wadleigh High School for Performing Arts in Harlem.
